A Zidanice is a traditional Slovenian wine maker’s cottage built on the edge of a family vineyard to accommodate wine making facilities and a wine cellar. It typically includes basic living space - usually only kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area - for use during harvesting and wine production. These tiny houses are dotted along the contours of steep vineyards in the picturesque hills of the Bizeljsko-Sremič wine region in Slovenia.
We renovated the whole building (originally built in 1985) to give it warmth, charm, and a sense of place and history. The cottage is intended to become a holiday gîte.
We wanted this home to give the impression of having been here for a century - as if it had been renovated organically and maintained lovingly over a long period of time.
Both interior and exterior of the cottage have received a whole new personality; and with a sprinkling of vintage furniture and collectibles, this little Zidanice has a new story to tell.
